16:32 @Ensign_HA: welcome Mike from the Ensign office in Salt Lake
16:32 @Ensign_Mike: Hello
16:33 @Ensign_HA: first order of business is we have the chat room server in the data center which we would like to do a load test. For those willing to participate in our load test on the new chat server, please follow these instructions -- the server address which you are using right now is 63.226.109.164 If you try the new server, you will want to return to this current server after our load test, so write down the address given above. The line of text you would enter to return to this current server is the following: /H/63.226.109.164 Any questions on how to get back after the test????
16:36 @Ensign_HA: ok, now to go to the new server for the load test you enter as text this command: /H/206.71.64.14
17:09 @Ensign_HA: hi, we are back and will continue out training class. A big thanks to those who participated in our load test of chat on the new server. After the class many will want to change to the new server using the command: /H/206.71.64.14 -- the command to be on this old server is: /H/63.226.109.164
Alan's Box
7:12 @Ensign_HA: let me give a bit of training on the Alan Square property form
7:13 @Ensign_HA: with the 6-28 version, which was released as regular and as debug versions, the following improvement is in the Alan Square

17:14 @Ensign_HA: on the property form, there is the option for Auto Find H/L. When checked the program will find in the chart yesterday High and Low and use as the box width the setting for the Square Width box. The number in the Square Width is the number of bars for the box width. Now the improvement was when the Auto Find H/L box is unchecked. When unchecked you can manually enter either price A (Low) and/or price B (High). Also, you can edit the square width and the box will resize on the chart to match the changed parameters. So the form permits manual entry of Price A and B and width when Auto Find is unchecked.
17:18 @Ensign_HA: any questions on this?
(If you lose your properties tab settings for the Alan Box, go to a chart that has the box and the properties window for the box. Click on "copy tab" and then click on a tab.)
Automatic Scaling
17:19 @Ensign_HA: when the chart scale mode is on Automatic, there has in the past been the awkwardness of changing the scale range. With a drag vertically on the scale, and then if you moved the chart horizontally or changed bar spacing, the chart would auto select the scale, thus overriding the scale range you just changed with the vertical drag.
17:20 @Ensign_HA: the improvement was to not do an auto resize of the scale if you have manually set the scale range. So the sequence would now be, resize scale range with vertical drag in the scale range, and the move the chart left or right, or compress/expand bar spacing and the manually set scale range will be retained
17:22 @Ensign_HA: any questions about the scale range change?
Pesavento Patterns new option

17:24 @Ensign_HA: on the Pesavento Patterns and also the Auto Trends studies, there is a Min. Size parameter that is used to filter out small swings so the larger swings are marked. The issue was a default setting for one symbol, such as 3.00 Points for ES, would be a setting much too big or too small for some other symbols, such as JPY to make the default setting work for any symbol, we added a new option box labeled 'Auto Min. Size'
17:25 @Ensign_HA: when this box is checked, the program will determine a good setting to use for Min. Size. based on the chart we look at the scale range and the decimal format of the scale to pick a good Min. Size setting. It works so well, I suspect that having this option checked will become standard for everyone's use
17:26 @Ensign_HA: You can still uncheck the option for Auto Min. Size so you can manually enter your own Min Size selection.
17:27 @Ensign_HA: now, here is a clever thing you can do.
17:27 @Ensign_HA: you can check the Auto Min Size box, and it will use the one it picks, and you can uncheck it and it will your Min Size parameter. If these two are different, you will see the effect toggle back and forth
17:28 @Ensign_HA: for example, your manually entered Min Size might be much smaller and thus show more swings. As you check or uncheck the Auto Min Size box the patterns will toggle from many swings to the fewer swings.
17:28 @Ensign_HA: let me post 2 pictures to illustrate
17:29 @Ensign_HA: first example has Auto Min Size checked for an ES chart.

17:30 @Ensign_HA: example -25 (first of three) was auto min size mode
17:31 @Ensign_HA: and example -26 (second of three) was with Auto Min Size unchecked and a manual entry of 1.00 points which then showed smaller swings
17:31 @Ensign_HA: one can toggle the check box on and off and toggle between the two views, which is kind of clever to quickly see small swings, and then larger swings.
17:31 @Ensign_HA: you can play with it and see what I mean. You might need to manually change the Min Size to be smaller to show more swings. This same principle works for the Auto Trends tool, and I find I like having the default mode having the Auto Min Size box checked
17:32 @Ensign_HA: any questions?
17:32 TerryT: If you have Auto Min Size checked and you change the scale of a chart, does the Auto Min Size change?
17:33 @Ensign_HA: no terry, it uses what was determined when tool was applied to the chart
17:33 TerryT: thx
17:34 Randy__1: heh... so what is the Math again on the Auto setting?

17:34 @Ensign_HA: last 2 examples show auto trends, the many trends was with Auto Min Size unchecked. The major trends were with Auto Min. Size checked. The Auto setting is using as the Min size 4 scale grid intervals
7:35 @Ensign_HA: ok, now on to a new topic.
17:35 Mixer: trying it out Howard --- very very nice! makes it a lot more worthwhile to consider using.
17:35 @Ensign_HA: thx mixer
Sound alert only once per Bar

17:36 @Ensign_HA: we have had on our 'To Do' list for a long time a request for limiting the Alert sound to once per bar. So on the new Study Alert form, in the Sound frame, you will have a new check box option labeled 'Sound once per bar'. When the option is unchecked the sound can be every tick (sounded every 3 seconds apart)
17:37 @Ensign_HA: check the box to have the sound on the first trigger and then be silent during the balance of the bar's construction. If the trigger happens again in a new bar, replay the alert sound. What the box will block is playing the sound more than once per bar. This is not the same as Close Only which is an evaluation once per bar at the close of the bar. The evaluation can be on every tick when close Only is unchecked but the sound once played in a bar, will not replay again until a new bar is started.
7:39 saxby: is the alarm on trendlines similar?
17:40 @Ensign_HA: no saxby, the alarm is just on study alert form
17:40 saxby: ok
17:39 @Ensign_HA: now on to a new topic....
Candlestick change

7:41 @Ensign_HA: many of you use candlesticks, in one form or another such as our Rockets, Zebras, Regular, or Corners formats. When bar spacing was very tight the candle bars would revert to a single solid black line. I improved on that for tight bar spacing, such as 1 or 2 pixels per bar, by coloring the middle of the vertical line with the candle body color, as in the next example.

17:42 @Ensign_HA: here is 2 pixel spacing, and the candle has a line of the body color, and then the tails in black on either end of the body. This is more informative than just a solid black line from H to L
IQFEED coming out of BETA Soon
7:43 @Ensign_HA: now for my last topic of the day....

7:44 @Ensign_HA: for our IQFeed and DTN.IQ customers, DTN has a newer version of the IQFeed software that is in beta testing still which is looking real good to me and I am anxious for DTN to release it out of beta testing, and they say they are getting close to being out of Beta testing. To support some of the new features of the IQFeed, our Connection form will show new information in the Statistics frame which we have not had available before.
7:46 @Ensign_HA: You can see we show the IP address, port, number of symbols watched and the max symbols capacity of the subscription level, and the version of the IQFeed software that is being used. I as a developer am running the 2.3.0.5 version which is in beta testing. And like I said, I like what I see in the way of improvements.
Example DYOs: 3 bar setup and ATR
17:47 @Ensign_HA: I posted a couple of DYO examples today that are kind of neat, so lets review them for the sake of DYO training.
www.ensignsupport.com/email/459.mhtml
17:48 @Buffy2: hit F5 or refresh if you can't read the link
17:48 @Ensign_HA: if that did not show for you, you can use menu Help | Knowledgebase and select #459. The example is a signal for a 3 bar formation with the middle bar being higher or lower than the two neighbors.
7:49 @Ensign_HA: the DYO checks the logic of the bar relationships, and when the 4 conditions are all true for a signal, it paints the zone with the Buy or Sell stripe.
17:50 @Ensign_HA: kind of a cool example of the DYO easily doing the bar relationships
17:51 Franko: Thank you. I wondering how I was going to do that
17:51 @Ensign_HA: the other example that is illustrative is the #458 example of plotting the ATR as a study in a sub-window and using the DYO as the means to have a private scale determined from the ATR study data.
17:51 @Ensign_HA: anyway, there are getting to be a lot of excellent examples of DYO usage posted to the Knowledgebase and lots of other general information has been accumulated in the Knowledgebase. If you are unfamiliar with the Knowledgebase, please use the Help menu and review some of this information.
17:52 @Ensign_HA: you can use the FInd feature to do keyword searches. Keep the keyword search simple, such as DYO, or Refresh, or Scale or Study and then look at the list of items returned. I have seen some try to enter as the Find a long phrase, which then matches nothing. It is not a query with a question or phrase. It is a keyword being present in the subject of the item
17:54 tt2: HA are the benefits of the new queuing routine for eSignal users available in both regular and debug versions of the latest program updates?
17:55 @Ensign_HA: yes tt2, 6-28 is same version for both, just the debug has the extra code for the error feedback which makes the program larger, but it is the same program.
17:56 TerryT: ty. nice stuff Howard
7:54 saxby: Howard, can you think of a way to alert if an Alan Box line is penetrated ? (this is related to various box strategies)
17:57 @Ensign_HA: saxby, the alan square will return values in the GVs, and possibly some of the penetration you seek can be by using the GV values in some way for a crossing of a line.
17:58 @Ensign_HA: so there is some potential of using GVs from the A.S., and using a DYO or Alert to watch for logic of a bar crossing some watched level.
17:58 saxby: yes 2 diagonals are gv,s -- need to calculate the others
7:59 @Ensign_HA: true saxby, but you can get the others by adding the H/L range to the 2 diagonals that are returned - all diagonals are parallel by a distance of the range
17:59 saxby: yes 1/2 range
7:59 @Ensign_HA: ok
17:56 Rice: Given that the Alan Box study can now locate yesterday's high and low, wouldn't it be fairly straightforward to implement the Support and Resistance levels (ie. S2, S1, P, R1, R2 etc.) as a study, and therefore automatic, rather than a draw tool?
18:00 @Ensign_HA: Rice, S&R is also automatic already, and if you want to see it plotted one day to the next like a study then see the DYO. Example for Dynamic S&R on the Help page, DYO example section.

Constant Time Charts
18:00 TerryT: Howard, what is your standard answer to the request for constant time bars that are less than 1 minute in duration? seconds bars. I know that there is at least a timing issue at 5sec for simbroker and some data vendors might not refresh using seconds?
8:01 NicklesF: Howard, I miss GV´s for the Gann Fan, Pyrapoint and the Pitchfork, could you added this, please?
18:01 @Ensign_HA: terry, standard answer is I am not interested in trying to do fractional time bars in seconds. There is not refresh other than ticks to use to rebuild them
18:02 @Ensign_HA: and since we do tick refresh for volume, tick, and range charts, that is not the real issue for not doing seconds.
18:02 @Ensign_HA: I just think it is a passing fad and seconds bars is getting too close to just being a tick chart of 1 tick per bar anyway, which is seldom used.
18:02 TerryT: ok ty except it shows time.
18:03 Mixer: I gotta jet -- thanks Howard, especially for the auto setting on Pesa
18:03 TerryT: except it shows time --
18:04 @Ensign HA: personally I think traders are too close to the market, like looking through a microscope, and fail to see the bigger picture. You do not judge the direction of the hurricane by looking at the molecules in a raindrop
18:05 virt: Howard, is the new candle coloring of the middle of the vertical line the new default or an option?....the open of the "new" candle looks "thicker"
8:05 @Ensign_HA: virt, it is not an option, it is the default - the open being thicker is the effect of the Rockets selection, so you are confusing 2 issues here.
18:06 virt: ok - thanks
Seminar
www.ensignsoftware.com/ensign_seminar.htm
18:06 @Ensign_HA: we are having a great training seminar in July in Salt Lake, and are pleased and excited to have Larry Pesavento present to give training about the methods he uses to analyze stocks and futures. Many of his charts for the past 7 weeks have been posted on dacharts, and if you have followed them you will recognize the good material he puts out
18:08 @Buffy2: Please don't post them to the rooms per his request
18:08 virt: Howard, when I have several formation tool lines on a chart...sometimes highlighting one to erase it "selects" a different set of lines - doesn't happen with just one or two
18:09 @Ensign_HA: virt, it is a matter of scanning through the objects list to find one that qualifies for the click selection. We look for both color of the pixel clicked on or nearby, and the location of the click. We cannot guess which one you mean, so we do the top to bottom scan and first to match is the one we pick.
18:09 virt: ok...sorta like lifo inventory?
8:09 @Buffy2: yes virt
18:10 virt: thanks buffy - ty Howard
GBL #F
18:11 Tricky: Howard, can you help me with setting up a GBL #F symbol, i'm not sure what roll date I need to set up as I don't see a 8th trading day to select

18:13 @Ensign_HA: tricky, enter 10th as the roll day
18:14 Tricky: ok thx Howard
18:17 Neb: great....also really appreciate that sound alert one time per bar.....thank you
18:18 @Ensign_HA: welcome
18:18 @Ensign_HA: bye all, need to fix property form and post as 6-29 version
18:18 @Buffy2: yes Howard many good things tonight - thank you
18:18 TerryT: ty Howard
18:18 amg: love the candle pixel thing and looking forward to the auto trend
