Color Grouping

July 11 , 2007

17:00 Ensign Kimball: We will discuss the Color Grouping feature in Ensign Windows. Ensign Windows allows you to display several charts at the same time.

17:00 Ensign Kimball: Charts can be grouped together by either Symbol or Time Frame. When a Chart is opened, two color boxes are displayed in the bottom-right corner of the chart

17:01 Ensign Kimball: The left box is a 'Symbol Group' color box. The right box is a 'Time Group' color box. A chart can be grouped with other charts on the screen based on the color of the two boxes.

17:01 Ensign Kimball: This allows several charts to respond to Symbol changes and Time Frame changes with just one click (based on the color of the boxes).

17:01 Ensign Kimball: Grouping by Symbol

17:02 Ensign Kimball: Charts can be grouped together by Symbol. For example, whenever you change a chart to a different Symbol, then ALL the charts that match the chart's 'Symbol Group' color box will also change to the new symbol (but retain their unique Time Frames).

17:02 Ensign Kimball: A new symbol can be specified on a chart by pressing Ctrl-S on the keyboard, selecting a symbol from the Chart Symbols window, selecting Charts | New Symbol from the menu, double-clicking on a Quote page symbol, or by scrolling through Quote page symbols using the Home and End keys.

17:03 Ensign Kimball: In the above Chart, I have changed the COLOR of the left color box (in the bottom right corner of the chart) to be RED. You change the Color of the box, by simply clicking on the box.

17:04 Ensign Kimball: If I were to also have an IBM.5 IBM.30 and IBM.60 charts open at the same time (along with my Daily chart). I could change the Symbol Group Color boxes on all the charts to be RED. This would basically link all 4 charts together.

17:04 Ensign Kimball: If the SYMBOL on any of the Charts is changed (to a different symbol) then all 4 Charts would change to that symbol at the same time.

17:04 Ensign Kimball: Grouping by Time

17:05 Ensign Kimball: The RIGHT color Box is used to Group charts together based on the TIME FRAME (instead of the Symbol)

17:06 Ensign Kimball: In the chart posted above, I have changed the Time Frame Grouping Box to be GREEN

17:06 Ensign Kimball: If I were to also have a MSFT.D DELL.D and AAPL.D charts open at the same time as my IBM.D chart......Then I could link these charts together with the Time Frame Box.

17:07 Ensign Kimball: If I changed the color to GREEN on all four charts, then if I changed the Chart Time Frame on any of the Charts....they would all change to that Time frame.

17:07 Ensign Kimball: For example, if I changed the IBM.D (daily) chart to be a Weekly chart IBM.W, then all the linked charts would change to be Weekly charts as well at the same time.

17:08 Ensign Kimball: If I changed a chart to be a 5-minute chart (like MSFT.5 ) then all the charts would change to be 5-minute charts.

17:09 Ensign Kimball: There are 2 Colors that are Wild CARDS. WHITE and BLACK.

17:09 Ensign Kimball: If the 'Time Group' color box is changed to WHITE, then that chart will always participate with any Time Frame changes from any chart. WHITE is a wildcard color allowing a chart to change Time Frames when any other chart changes Time Frames.

17:09 Ensign Kimball: BLACK is used to exclude a chart from participating in any Time Frame changes. A BLACK 'Time Group' color box will keep a chart's Time Frame unique. A BLACK color box will never participate with other Charts when they change Symbols, or Time Frames. (This is the default).

17:11 Ensign Kimball: Note: If you change the chart Time Frame in a WHITE 'Time Group' colored chart, then ALL charts, except BLACK, will change to the new Time Frame.

17:11 Ensign Kimball: Using the Color Group Boxes allows you to GROUP similar charts or Time Frames and quickly change all the Grouped charts at the same time. Nice feature....Comes in Handy.

17:15 Max: once you link several symbols do you have to save the group to a workspace? Or when you open one chart with a colored symbol link does it make changes from workspace to workspace?

17:16 Ensign Kimball: Each workspace remembers its own settings. Making a change in one workspace will not change a different workspace.
