Custom Names for Studies, Saving Chart Defaults. Available Refresh

16:32 Ensign Howard: One of the suggestions in conjuction with the privatize and template security was a request to be able to rename the studies so that when they were privatized, they did not all show the same name of 'Custom' on the chart objects list and on the study values panel on the left side of the chart. This request for the ability to rename the study has been implemented in the 07-05 upgrade which can be downloaded from the Ensign web site, preferably do so after the class.

16:34 Ensign Howard: To begin with, let me introduce this new ability to rename a study to have a Custom Name by watching a 3 minute video on this topic. This video can also be watched later and is on the Video page of our web site as Video #13.

16:40 @Buffy: can name stoch bline, stoch fast ribbon making the chart objects list much clearer and they will know where to go easier to change color or parameters. Thank you for adding this feature

16:41 Ensign Howard: yes, boh are good ideas.... particularly for making it easier to find a particular unique study on the chart objects list.

16:42 @Buffy: Also saves them going through each chart object and makes documentation of a template much easier

16:42 Ensign Howard: OK, enjoy, I think it is ready for you to jump on it and make good use of the feature. I expect to see some very nice templates and useful names on the list

16:44 Ensign Howard: Now the Alerts and the DYO already had a bit of a custom name via the DYO's Study Name field and the Alert's Message field.

16:44 Ensign Howard: This Custom Name edit box will be found on most other studies. It is part of what is remembered for the tabs on the study property form. So each tab could have a different name. And if the field is blank, then the old built in default study name is used. So if you gave a study a custom name, and now want to remove that name, simply blank out the Custom Name field.

Some of the material was previously posted in our Q&A Knowledgebase, and I considered it too good to just remain buried in that database. I continually add more and more to the Knowledgebase, so please check it occasionally and read the articles. Hopefully it will serve as a means to get the word out, and educate everyone about Ensign Windows use.

Saving Chart Defaults

17:30 hilo: Is there a way to set default custom colors for grid lines, big cross, data font, etc. so that any new chart will have these colors ?

17:31 Ensign Howard: Yes, go to chart properties on a chart that has the color settings you like, on the right side click the Save Default button and this will write these settings to be the default for use by new charts.

17:32 Ensign Howard: After making this Save Default change, you can force existing charts to also use the same color properties by clicking menu Setup | Charts, select Maintenance tab, and perform task #13.

17:56 Ensign Howard: ajm, for which time frame? ticks we do 20 hours or so -- daily and intra-day, back 4 months or so. Daily will be a few weeks, and if more is wanted then we switch to use other Internet source such as DTN Market Access. So you can get 70 years for stock daily, and around 10 years futures daily in our refresh
