16:30 Ensign Howard: Welcome to today's Wednesday training class with the Ensign staff.... this is Howard as the teacher today.
FXCM Feed
16:31 Ensign Howard: Three weeks ago we accepted users for our beta test phase on the FXCM feed, and then a week later opened it up to a general invitation. Some evolution and improvement has continues with our FXCM feed project, and I am very pleased with how things have gone for the past 3 weeks.
16:32 Ensign Howard: Last Thursday we put on a new server and built a refresh database on it. When we migrated users to the new server, which involved getting an update to the EDS program so that the new server's refresh database would be accessed instead of the original server. The transition to the new server was pretty transparent to everyone, and we turned off the original server yesterday.
16:34 Ensign Howard: So all FXCM users are now on the new server...... if you lack refresh on the FXCM charts, that might indicate you have not yet upgraded the EDS program to the current one on our web site.
16:36 Ensign Howard: Our FXCM user count has been as high as 94 simultaneous users, and we thought today would be the day to break 100 FXCM users, but alas, that will have to wait for another day, possibly tomorrow or Friday. Everything looks real good from our perspective about the FXCM feed and refresh capability built into the Ensign Windows program.
16:37 Ensign Howard: If any of you would like to utilize this free feed and are not yet doing so, please see this web page of instructions about downloading the EDS program, and activating the feed with the FXCM check box on the Setup | Connection form.

16:38 Ensign Howard: Any comments or feedback about the FXCM project?
16:42 Rice: FXCM seems flawless here, except for an isolated wild tick here or there.
16:43 Ensign Howard: thx rice, glad you like it.....
Workspaces
16:44 Ensign Howard: anyone with a question?
16:45 wout: I have saved several workspaces. Once I open a workspace and I want another open on the same screen, the new is replacing the first. Can I avoid that so I can get the 2 workspaces on screen?
16:46 Ensign Howard: The intent is that a workspace is the entire screen collection of windows. So if you want the equivalent of a combined collection, open the larger of the 2 workspace, then add more charts and resave as a bigger combined workspace. We do not support the particular mode of opening 2 simultaneously
16:47 Ensign Howard: Now if the 2nd is a smaller workspace there is a trick you can use to get it to open without erasing the 1st that is open. When you have the workspace panel showing, you can click on the name of the 2nd one to open to select it.
16:49 Ensign Howard: Then click on the Show Script button and the very first line of the script that shows is the word CLEAR. If you manually click in the script listing and erase that first instruction, you can then continue running the workspace by clicking the Open button or you could resave it in its edited form. The CLEAR instruction is what is causing the existing workspace on the screen to be erased by closing all its windows before the newly selected workspace opens its windows.
16:51 Ensign Howard: Still, after getting a combined collection on the screen resave it using a new name so you just open this bigger workspace when you want it.
Faster way to do Offsets of Study
16:51 Ensign Howard: aww, your ? please
16:51 aww: My workspace has one stack containing numerous charts. I have two Hull DYO Template's on the charts. One is offset plus 3 on Line F of one of the Hull DYO Template's. When switching charts within the Stack the offset does not kick in until I go to Chart properties, click on Hull template that is offset and uncheck-recheck the show box. Seems too run OK until I change to another chart. Each time I switch charts, I must go through this procedure. I'll post 2 charts, showing before and after.

16:54 Ensign Howard: Show me properties form that accomplishes the forward shift 3 bars

16:56 Ensign Howard: problem is on line F.... offset needs to be -3. Then resave the workspace after making the change and all will be well

16:56 aww: ok thanks Howard
16:57 Ensign Howard: now, may I suggest a speedier way to do the same, and that is to put on a 1 period moving average that is referencing the Hull DYO Line J and the moving average can be offset with the -3. Plotting the average is faster then recalculating the Hull Ave a 2nd time to do the -3 offset

16:58 Ensign Howard: here are the 2 hull averages, with one offset rightward 3
16:58 Ensign Howard: now let me put on the MA with the reference

17:01 Ensign Howard: This shows the MA with no offset referencing the Hull ave that is shifted -3 so you see it lays on top of the line.
17:02 Ensign Howard: Now I will remove this 2nd Hull ave and have MA reference 1st Hull and do the forward shift on this MA form.

17:03 Ensign Howard: Now the chart has just 1 Hull average, and 1 MA that references the Hull, and plots it offset 3 bars rightward as shown
17:04 Ensign Howard: This is much faster then having the 2nd DYO to calc the Hull a 2nd time
17:04 aww: Thanks Howard. I will do this after class
Pesavento Map Rating
17:04 Ensign Howard: virt, your ? now
17:05 virt5: I noticed that shifting the chart position changes the calculated value of the lp map ie...move it so you can see more and more of the projection
17:06 Ensign Howard: are you referring to the rating value?
17:06 virt5: s d t = x
17:07 Ensign Howard: ok, that was a little tool developed so I can do some relative comparisons of different forecast methods across a large set of charts to see if one idea is better or inferior to another.
17:08 Ensign Howard: The rating is affected by the beginning point of the plot on the chart, so your leftward shift must be moving some data off the left edge of the screen. If you were to make the bar spacing smaller, the rating should return to the original value because all is plotted again as before.
17:09 Ensign Howard: When I do my scoring for system comparisons, I typically will have the first bar on the left side be the first bar of the day session, and the width of the chart will be what is needed to show the full day session. That way I have a rating that is for all bars that day and thus I can compare ratings on different days with different systems and the ratings are for a full day. If you find value is the rating, great, but I am not going to worry about it because its purpose for was for some research I am doing
17:11 virt5: Was just wondering why it changed....thanks
17:12 Ensign Howard: The answer is because it is working with the portion visible on the chart...kind of resets to zero with the first bar on the visual part of the chart
17:21 Ensign Howard: Since we have no questions, Lets call it a day.... thanks for attending class and have good success in your trading.... bye
17:21 @Buffy2: ok Howard take care
17:21 aww: Thanks again Howard.
17:21 wout: Thanks for the answers, have a fine evening
