| Howard staff training on Globals |
December 3 , 2004
16:32 Hi from Ensign..... we are going to have another class on Global Variables in 5 minutes in the Support room for some additional training of my staff.... you are welcome to listen in on Ventrilo port 3800 and see the text in the chat room. We will be discussion an advanced template using alerts called Trend Trigger Factor in the training. You can download the template through the internet services form if you want to follow along on the training.
16:32 This will be a bit more advanced for the benefit of training my Salt Lake staff.

16:36 @Ensign_H: What this alert does is finds the highest high for a period, which I am doing for 8

16:52 tradinoncoffee: I can slide the chart right or left, open the alert and see what it calculates as of the right most bar showing?
16:54 tradinoncoffee: ty

17:04 hobo3: could you go over getting info from one chart to the second?, are the global v's constant across Ensign or in a chart?

17:06 hobo3: ok ty
17:06 @Buffy2: the window you posted had 8 for write variable the template we have has zero
17:06 @Buffy2: ok - work in progress

7:09 tradinoncoffee: was trying to plot on MA on your "Factor" just as you were doing this...I am not bring one up...could you post MA Properties
17:10 tradinoncoffee: oh
17:10 tradinoncoffee: point is, though, that we can put indicators on the created studies, correct?

17:13 tradinoncoffee: so, if I anticipate using a variable in a study on study....I should keep the first 20 open for those possibilities
17:14 @Buffy2: thank you for inviting us Howard
17:14 dblue2: Very instructive

17:15 tradinoncoffee: very flexible...and planning is required
17:16 dblue2: cool
17:16 tradinoncoffee: nice
17:18 Randy_NC: That's powerful - thks
17:19 dblue2: Thanks for including us Howard
17:19 Shar: Thanks.
17:20 @Ensign_H: welcome, open for anyone now
17:20 @Ensign_H: if you have a question, particularly about this new GV innovation, ask
17:20 @Ensign_H: I will try and help, so you can make more progress on your designs over the weekend
7:21 @Buffy2: we just started to walk with this Howard you are running the marathon :-) We will catch up
17:21 Randy_NC: never
17:21 dblue2: amen
17:25 zzz: would you mind discussing scaling a bit more
17:26 @Ensign_H: ok zzz, some of the values you want to plot need to be scaled to fit the panel they plot in
17:26 @Ensign_H: for example, if you are plotting on the chart, the values need to be in the price range of the chart scale. But the values you want to plot may not be chart prices and example of this is the Historical Volatility example in our newsletter
17:27 @Ensign_H: HV values were a range of 0..20
17:27 @Ensign_H: to plot these on the ES Chart scale we multiplied the HV to resize it to fit the chart range and then we added the chart scale low to vertically shift it.
17:28 @Ensign_H: example if HV = 10 and we need this to show midway between 1180 and 1190 on the chart. We want a final value of 1195 starting with a 10. First multiply by 0.5 to get 5 and then add the scale low to get the final 1185
17:29 @Ensign_H: want 1185 not 1195 - now this is ready to plot on the chart scale
17:29 @Ensign_H: some of the Global Values do this kind of resize using the Number field and add the Scale low. Let me show the selection from the Alert panel, 1 moment

17:31 @Ensign_H: in this example for Historical Volatility, Panel A returned a small value, we resized it by 4 multiplier in panel B and added the Scale Low, for a final result of 1189.61 to plot the marker plots position 'B' Value using the curve marker
17:32 Moe Mentum: Howard: question...In creating properties for a 3 bar pattern, which condition should I be using? Can I sequentially link the properties just with the "A and B" condition?
17:32 @Ensign_H: yes moe, and you can also do this
17:33 @Ensign_H: if you have 3 conditions, save them in sequence to GVs like [30], [31], [32]
17:33 @Ensign_H: then use the Global Value | Count True[#] selection with # = 3 and GV start = 30. Then you will get back a 3 when all three hold a True
17:34 @Ensign_H: this is slick, or you could use the Global Flag And[#} with #=3 and GV start = 30 and this function will return Boolean of [30] AND [31] AND [32] when all 3 are true then the result is True.
17:35 @Ensign_H: either way would work
17:35 Moe Mentum: ty
17:35 @Ensign_H: The AND[#] selection does it all in one panel
17:35 @Ensign_H: the Count True would then need panel B to have a Number like 3 to compare to
17:36 @Ensign_H: the beauty of the Count True could be you want to compare to 2 instead of to 3 and then you have a True when count is >=2 out of 3 possible and you do not care which 2 are the True and which 1 of the 3 is False, or if all 3 are T and none are F
17:37 @Ensign_H: as is usually the case, there is more than one way to do something
17:37 Moe Mentum: ty
17:37 @Ensign_H: let me show a powerful typical test for finding a peak bar.

17:39 @Ensign_H: in this example one panel checks for a higher high, offset -1 and the other checks for a lower high, no offset
17:40 @Ensign_H: so this finds a high peak bar, one bar later,, so in the sequence A B C it is B that is the highest high
17:41 @Buffy2: how should we be thinking to organize thought process on where to start and not get globals all mixed up which some are doing and then have to go back to change them all
17:42 @Buffy2: really like the way you name them
17:42 @Buffy2: Howard said - sketch different phases as steps - then check later steps to see if something in way that might be data point need to be used - ran into same thing when I did it - need spreads to be adjacent
17:45 @Buffy2: wanted to share nice worksheet ninja did for his. That couple with way you named them should help avoid confusion. Seems if you plan it out on paper then just be erasing numbers instead of redoing alerts.
17:51 @Ensign_H: could create 5R Buy directly from [1]..[20] using this Global Value statement
17:52 @Ensign_H: Min[#] with #=20 and GV start = 1

18:15 tradinoncoffee: Howard...you still there?

18:38 zzz: I have to go, but wanted to say thx again, Howard!

18:39 Randy_NC: but a Check box or maybe a global reference could be built to auto input this data from the Minutes into the tick, Volume, Range based charts....as a check box option.... or something - same issues on the Daily price line tool for these chart types... YC...

19:01 Shar: Night Howard.
