Internet Services - Download Tab

March 22 , 2006

16:31 Ensign Kimball: For the next hour a Training Class will be held in this room. Please hold your questions until asked for. Thank You.

16:31 Ensign Kimball: Today's topic will cover the 'Internet Services' screen in Ensign Windows.

16:32 Ensign Kimball: To Open the 'Internet Services' window click the 'Internet Services' button on the main Toolbar. Or, select 'File | Open | Internet Services' from the menu.

16:33 Ensign Kimball: There are 5 tabs on the screen: Download, Data, Order Form, E-mail, and Play Back Basic. Please click the 'Download' tab. This is the one we will be discussing for this class.

16:34 Ensign Kimball: As shown in the screen capture above there are various items that can be downloaded from this screen. Many users will open this window to see a if new version of Ensign Windows is available for download.

16:34 Ensign Kimball: When you open this screen, the Version Date will be printed. As you can see, the current version available for download is the 'March 21st' version. This screen also lets you know, what version you currently have installed. You can see in the example above, that I already have the March 21st version installed. If you need to upgrade your software, just click the selection bullet next to 'Ensign Program Upgrade' then click the 'Download' button.

16:36 Ensign Kimball: To begin a download of the Ensign Windows program, click the Download button. A progress bar will inform you of the download process. When the download has been completed, Ensign Windows will save all files and Exit. The SETUP.EXE program will then automatically run and install the new version of the software.

16:37 Ensign Kimball: Do not install the upgrade during market hours unless you don’t mind the program being shut-down for a few minutes while the upgrade is installed. To run the SETUP.EXE file at a later time, simply exit the Ensign Windows program and then run the SETUP.EXE file from the \ENSIGN folder.

16:37 Ensign Kimball: On occasion, it may be necessary to revert to a Prior version of Ensign. You can download the prior version from this screen. Just select the 'Prior Ensign Version' selection and then click the 'Download' button. Currently, the Prior version is from January 11th.

16:38 Ensign Kimball: There are also Ensign versions that have some programmed DEBUG tools included. If necessary, a DEBUG version can be installed. This may be necessary for a user who is having unique problems with Ensign, that need to be debugged and reported to Ensign programmers. The last Debug version is currently October 13th.

16:40 Ensign Kimball: Although this screen can be used to download a current version of Ensign Windows, the easiest and quickest way to Upgrade Ensign is to select 'File | Upgrade Ensign Windows' from the menu. (This will only get you upgrade of the version you are running.....example would be it wouldn't get a new beta if it was available.)

16:41 Ensign Kimball: There are 7 other categories of Downloads on this screen......Workspace, Template, ESPL, Playback, Intraday, History, and Quote Page. All of these download files are available for Ensign users.

16:42 Ensign Kimball: Ensign currently has 3 sample Workspace files that can be downloaded. If you have a popular Workspace file, you can send it to Ensign, and we can add it to our Download list.

16:43 Ensign Kimball: There are over 60 different Templates available to download. To download a Template, click the Template bullet, and select a Template from the drop-down list.16:44 Ensign Kimball: To download a Template, click the Template bullet, and select a Template from the drop-down list. The files will save to the \ENSIGN\TEMPLATE folder on your computer. The Template will automatically appear on your Templates list. This allows you to apply the Template to a chart

16:47 Ensign Kimball: There are a few sample ESPL files that can be downloaded.

16:48 Ensign Kimball: There are dozens of Playback files that can be downloaded and Played. The Playback files allow you to practice your Trading on actual trades that occurred for a Market. The Playback feature is like playing a tape recorder of prior Trading day. You can apply studies and Trading systems and lines on the chart as the trading unfolds. The Playback can be played back at regular speed, or up to 10 times faster.

(Playback files had volume added to them Oct 1, 2005. Dacharts has years of playback files saved at www.dacharts.org/archives/Playback_Files)

16:50 Ensign Kimball: The right side of the 'Download' page allows you to download some Historical chart files. Ensign Software has been updating and maintaining these particular charts for a long time. This gives you some long term charts that the REFRESH normally does not contain. For example, there are 30-minute charts for several symbols. The ES #F.30 minute chart goes back for 2 years. You can download that chart from the 'Intra-day' selection.

16:52 Ensign Kimball: The 'History' selection allows you to download Daily charts. The Dow Jones chart $INDU goes back to 1946. This allows you to look at, and study chart formations from many years ago.

16:54 Ensign Kimball: The 'Quote page' download section contains the Symbols from some popular market segments. For example, there is a Custom Quote page file of the S & P 100 symbols. You can download that file. It will automatically appear on your Quote page in the drop-down list of custom quote pages. This saves you from having to research out these symbols, and typing them all by hand.

16:56 Ensign Kimball: Any Questions about this 'Internet Services' screen ?

16:57 Ensign Kimball: In summary, this screen is a useful location to check for the latest version of Ensign Windows. It also allows you to download and play a lot of different Playback files. There are some great Templates that have been submitted by users. There are some long term chart files that can be used to enhance your analysis.

16:58 dblue3: How current are the history files?

16:59 Ensign Kimball: The Playback files are updated once per week. The Chart files are updated once per quarter (the Refresh can fill in the latest days)

16:59 dblue3: thx

16:58 zbullzbear: how do we use 'pror Ensign version' and 'debug'?

17:00 Ensign Kimball: You don't ever need to use the Prior or Debug versions, unless you are experiencing a complicated problem. Sometimes a particular user has a software problem that is difficult to diagnose. Sometimes, downloading a Prior version will restore his software to a more useable condition until the problem can be fixed on his computer.

17:00 zbullzbear: ty

17:01 tmp: Is there a way to download ALL PLAYBACK instead of one at a time?

17:02 Ensign Kimball: You can only download 1 file at a time.

17:02 lakshmi: What is the difference between the Download Tab (Intraday History) and the Data Tab ?

17:02 Ensign Kimball: The 'Data' tab is a manual way to download Chart files. The REFRESH that is already built-in already does this. However, some users may create a list of 50 symbols, and want to update all the 1 minute charts at the same time. The user could enter the list. Then add '1' as a desired time frame - then click the 'Download Intraday' button. All 50 charts would then get updated with the current 1-minute data (without having to open each chart)

17:04 lakshmi: Ok so downloading from the Download, doesn't connect to the Data server ie. eSignal!?

17:05 Ensign Kimball: If you are an eSignal user, then this screen is hardly ever used. Just open a chart, and the eSignal chart servers will update your chart.

17:04 tmp: but not the same as playback?

17:05 Ensign Kimball: This screen is not a Playback download. These are actual Chart files.

17:05 tmp: ok

17:06 Ensign Kimball: The 9 tabs at the bottom allow you to build 9 customized Symbol lists. Each list can download whatever Time Frames you have specified

17:06 lakshmi: How we specify tick ?

17:07 Ensign Kimball: This screen does not download Tick chart files.

17:07 Ensign Kimball: Only Intraday, Daily, Weekly, Monthly

17:08 Ensign Kimball: That is all that was planned for today. Thank you for coming to the Training.

17:08 lakshmi: Thank You

17:08 Vijay: Thanks Kimball!

17:08 mikeal: many thanks

17:08 tmp: Class on playback? and thanks

17:12 CW: Ensign internet data selection? What data source. Where is symbol list. Is it real time.

17:14 Ensign Kimball: CW... the Ensign Internet is not real-time tick by tick. The charts can be downloaded whenever you want. Most of them are have the delay requirement but are almost current.
