1635 @Ensign_Kimball Today, for the Training I will highlight and discuss MARKERS

1636 @Ensign_Kimball The Chart above is an IBM Daily chart with 2 Moving Averages showing. There are no Markers on the Chart. To place a Marker on the Chart, first open the Properties window for the Study.

1637 @Ensign_Kimball You can select a Marker for the 1st Average, and the 2nd Average. Normally, the drop-down list boxes are BLANK. In order to select a Marker, click on the drop-down list box. There are over 90 Markers that can be selected from the List.

1638 @Ensign_Kimball In the example above, I changed the Line Style for the 1st Average to be BLANK

1640 @Ensign_Kimball Here is the Properties window. You can see the Marker box now has the X selected. The 'Style' box for the 1st average is now BLANK.

1644 @Ensign_Kimball Next, you will notice that there is a 'Spread' line. This will plot the difference between the 1st and 2nd average.

1644 @Ensign_Kimball The screen capture above represents the difference between the 1st and 2nd average lines (plotted as a Histogram)

1645 @Ensign_Kimball I have also placed a check mark in the 'Spread' SHOW box.
1646 @Ensign_Kimball Next, I changed the study 'Location' to be sub-window 1 (instead of Chart). Lastly, I changed the 'Study Mode' to be 'Rising...Falling'. This causes the Histogram to be colored in RED and GREEN depending on the rising or falling value of the spread. You can click in the spread multiplier box (currently showing a 4) to expand or decrease the amplitude (height) of the Histogram lines.

1648 @Ensign_Kimball Here is the same chart with the multiplier of 1. Notice the MARKERS that are selected for the Spread. The Marker looks like a mini-histogram. This particular marker can be used to Plot a value as a Histogram.
1650 @Ensign_Kimball If I change the Line Style of the Spread, and BLANK the Marker box, then it will look like this.

1651 @Ensign_Kimball I have selected a Thicker line style, and changed the Multiplier to 3 (so that the spread amplitude will be larger). The actual value of the Spread does not change.

1652 @Ensign_Kimball This is what the Properties window now looks like.
1653 @Ensign_Kimball If I change the 'Study Mode' to be 'Above...Below' then the Color of the lines will change only when the value crosses above or below ZERO.

1655 @Ensign_Kimball The 'Study Mode' is on the right hand side of the study Properties window. The Grid Lines are nice, if you are plotting the Lines in a Sub-window. If you change the Location be the 'CHART' then it sometimes can get messy.

1657 @Ensign_Kimball Now, the study is back to normal, excepting that I have thicker Lines.

1659 hobo3 I like that, was waiting for it cause I knew it was coming. lol
1700 @Ensign_Kimball This example, was made by first, hiding the chart bars. You can do that by pressing 'b' on the keyboard. Press 'b' again to unhide the bars. Next, I selected a FILL BETWEEN marker.... which fills- in between the two average lines.

1701 @Ensign_Kimball I also changed a couple of the colors. This marker is found down near the bottom of the Marker list... probably the 80th marker out of 90. There is a THICKER version of this marker. It looks like this.
1702 Randy__NC Are you reviewing other markers as well today?

1702 @Ensign_Kimball Here is the Properties window.

1703 @Ensign_Kimball Notice that the Marker icon looks pretty much the same, just a Thicker version of the first marker.

1705 @Ensign_Kimball This screen capture adds a new twist.

1707 @Ensign_Kimball Changing the 'Study Mode' to 'Zones' allows you to define a Price Range. For this particular chart I have defined a Price Zone between 84.50 and 86.50
1708 @Ensign_Kimball Whenever the Study Lines are ABOVE 86.50 then they are plotted with the ABOVE colors, style, and markers
1709 @Ensign_Kimball When the Study Line is BELOW 84.50 then the line is plotted in the BELOW color, style, and Marker.
1709 @Ensign_Kimball When the study is in Between, then it plots using the Middle settings.
1709 @Ensign_Kimball Any questions. regarding this.. ?

1710 hobo3 can you have it change in a zone for rising falling in the zone?
1710 @Ensign_Kimball no. You can add a Marker to give it some emphasis.

1711 @Ensign_Kimball I've seen a lot of users do this.
1711 LW43 when I use zones, the lines seem to color before the specified levels are breached. for example

1711 Randy__NC You can with a study though only after the fact in real time.
1711 LW43 the red is set at 20 but you see it already at 50

1713 @Ensign_Kimball Here is a simple example of using ZONES and MARKERS with a Stochastic study (above or below 80 and 20)
1714 LW43 looks like same phenomenon on your last chart also--yellow before you hit 80 (assuming that's where your zone boundary is set)

1714 @Ensign_Kimball This example uses the ZON Marker to get more dramatic

1715 @Ensign_Kimball The ZON Marker will paint a vertical strip whenever the Marker is supposed to drawn.

1716 @Ensign_Kimball This example is using the HLT (Bar Highlighter) Marker

1717 vwman hobo3, I have rising falling and zones using 2 studies
1718 @Ensign_Kimball That will work
1718 hobo3 could you post an example

1720 @Ensign_Kimball This example is using the 'Color Bar' Marker. It will Color the corresponding bar, when the ZONE condition is triggered. The Bars are colored Green or Red when the Stochastics value gets above or below 80 / 20

1720 hobo3 cool
1721 @Ensign_Kimball The Properties window above shows you what the 'Color Bar' marker looks like.
1721 hobo3 got it
1721 @Ensign_Kimball You can uncheck the SHOW boxes for both study lines, change the Location to 'Chart' and only watch the BAR COLOR changes.

1723 @Ensign_Kimball A Stochastics study is present on this chart, but it is only painting the BARS when the value gets above 80 or below 20. You don't see the study lines.
1723 hobo3 thats great

1723 @Ensign_Kimball Here is the Properties window for that setup.
1724 @Ensign_Kimball The chart looks really clean, but still communicates the Stochastics extremes for you.
1724 Randy__NC Could you post some other Examples of some of the other markers on that list?? Specifically the "CAL, SLP, STY, and UNIT" Markers? thx
1727 @Ensign_Kimball Lets start with the CAL Marker. This Marker is best used by LINES. For example, I will draw a LINE from Point A to Point B. I will activate the CAL Marker on the Line. This Marker will show how many Calendar Days are in between the points.

1729 hobo3 could you do one of those that takes two points and sums volume?
1730 Randy__NC SO CAL is a time calculation .. Is that for Days only?
1730 @Ensign_Kimball Yes DAYS only. CAL is a Calendar Day counter.

1731 @Ensign_Kimball So, we know there are 37 Bars in the A through B LINE. BAR is a bar counter.
1732 @Ensign_Kimball Next.
1733 @Ensign_Kimball This is a SLOPE per bar calculator - SLP
1733 @Ensign_Kimball Here's an example

1733 @Ensign_Kimball This example tells you that between the start and end point, there was a -0.1068 drop per bar.
1734 @Ensign_Kimball It will also work on Study Values.

1736 Randy__NC found it... what is its best use... do you think? Maybe an angle of a trend line compared to that of the new GANN Line in auto Channel Study?
1738 @Ensign_Kimball SLP gives you an idea of how fast a LINE is falling or rising with PRICE as the measurement per bar.
1740 @Ensign_Kimball If I were to drag the bar another 8 bars, then the value would be 10.
1741 @Ensign_Kimball The UNITS marker comes in handy if you want to Measure this horizontal distance (only at an Angle)

1741 @Ensign_Kimball This example is using UNITS
1741 @Ensign_Kimball The value is 24.35
1742 @Ensign_Kimball This distance, is the same distance as if measuring 24.35 Bars in Time
1742 Randy__NC 24.35 what?

1743 @Ensign_Kimball You get the idea ?
1743 hobo3 so if you go from close to close you'll get an even number?
1743 Randy__NC radius angle cal
1743 @Ensign_Kimball 24 UNITS of Time, can be measured and marked in the chart.
1743 @Ensign_Kimball You could just use the CIRCLE draw tool to get the same effect

1744 @Ensign_Kimball Notice, how the distance is the same. That's what you are trying to find.
1744 Randy__NC so you hook it to the line tool?
1746 @Ensign_Kimball yes
1746 Randy__NC Not so good for the Stoch study... -)
1746 @Ensign_Kimball no
1746 @Ensign_Kimball Some of the Markers are geared towards LINES. Some are best used with Studies.
1747 Randy__NC no wonder I couldn't get it to mean anything
1747 @Ensign_Kimball Ok. Lastly, lets discuss the STY marker.
1747 @Ensign_Kimball This one is a little tricky.
1747 @Ensign_Kimball This Marker is best used by a STUDY ALERT. The Marker will COLOR another STUDY based on the Study Alert conditions. I'll setup an example.

1752 @Ensign_Kimball This is a Stochastic %K Line. The color of the Line has been changed to GREEN at all locations where it is HIGHER than the % D line (which is hidden)

1758 @Ensign_Kimball The Properties window above shows the Study Alert. The 'Position' of the Marker is set to the 'A' Value (meaning the %K Stochastics line in panel A ). The line is colored Green whenever it is ABOVE the % D line.
1759 @Ensign_Kimball Well.... I hope that this MARKER discussion has been helpful to show a few ideas.
1759 Randy__NC OK Thanks... I'm now filling in more black space on my charts...
1759 @Ensign_Kimball I've got to run. If you have any questions, you can send me an e-mail at Kimball@ ensignsoftware.com
1759 hobo3 thank you
1800 Randy__NC thx
1800 Buffy 2 thanks Kimball
