6:35 Ensign Howard: Hi, and welcome to a short training class on the Price Histogram.
16:35 tick: Howard thanks for your great improvements on the long awaited PH charts...
16:36 Ensign Howard: And I trust that those here are interested in commenting on the progression being made in the visual as new features are added.
16:36 tick: Outstanding improvements
16:37 Ensign Howard: Your feedback is welcomed and will help polish off the presentation so it is attractive, intuitive, and informative.
16:37 Ensign Howard: There is a 04-10 version available which will be the topic of discussion.
16:37 Ensign Howard: some features are not yet implemented, and the speed improvement has not yet been accomplished.
16:38 Ensign Howard: I have focused this week on adding more to the visual, which implements quite a bit of the suggestions received in the past 9 months. But more is coming, and it just takes time to get it implemented and tested
16:39 tick: Our patience will be rewarded, already looks good.
16:39 Ensign Howard: Because this is a major project, I have added a new study where I can do my development so as to not disturb the current Price Histogram's functionality. So to see the improvements you need to add the new study which is listed on the study drop down list as Price Histogram (New) When the new PH is fully developed, then I intend to remove the existing PH and be back to a single copy called Price Histogram. But as I release the improvements piece-meal, I did not want to disrupt the current PH because so many users use it as is.
16:41 Ensign Howard: let me show you what is new and give a demonstration.

16:42 dblue3: thanks for posting to dacharts.. will be more helpfull
16:42 Ensign Howard: here is a PH (New) on a chart with candles plotted on top. The PH can be plotted on top and the bars could also be hidden. For the sake of focus on PH, I will hide the bars with the B key
16:42 tick: excellent

16:44 Ensign Howard: One objective was to keep the TPO boxes square, so they are now sized by the scale range only, and independent of the bar spacing.

16:45 Ensign Howard: here is a narrower scale range, which permits the TPO boxes to be larger

16:49 Ensign Howard: Here the scale range is wide, so TPO boxes are foced to be small, and you can see the visual change.

16:49 Ensign Howard: this is the property form that was used for the examples presented so far. let me discuss the new stuff starting on the left side.
16:50 Ensign Howard: The PH can control the box size in points, which if zero, will use the default tick size as in the old PH. But with a value entered, you can force a larger or smaller box size than would be the default. The 0.25 points is typical and appropriate for an ES #F chart because it trades in 0.25 increments.
16:51 topset: I like this box size addition
16:50 dblue3: you changed the labeling on 10th version.. lowest check box?
16:51 Ensign Howard: yes, dblue, lots of changes from 9th to 10th as more stuff added.
16:51 dblue3: should one of those be val?
16:52 Ensign Howard: The next box labeled Initial % controls the size of the 2 additional bands drawn above and below the Initial Range. The entry of 50 would then draw a band of 2nd color from 100% to 150% and a 3rd color from 150% to 200%. and the image repeated below the Initial Range, with 2nd color from 0% to -50% and 3rd color from -50% to -100%
16:53 Ensign Howard: in my thinking you want the bands every 50%, so the enter is a 50.
16:54 Ensign Howard: The initial range is optionally drawn on the left side of the PH as a vertical line. The Initial Range box is checked to show this vertical line, and the width of the line is the Line Style selection on the Intial Range row. The initial range color is the color box on this row, and the time period in minutes is the edit box on this row.
16:55 Ensign Howard: In the example, the Initial Range is the time period of 60 minutes and is drawn in orange. The 2nd band color for the initial range will come from the next row, which is labeled Session Box. And the 3rd band color for the initial range will come from the next row down, which is labeled Session Bar.
16:56 Ensign Howard: Like Initial Range, we also can plot the Open Range, which is another time period range from the PH start, and it has its own Line Style for thickness, color, and time period.
16:57 Ensign Howard: In the example the Open Range is for 15 minutes, and is plotted to the left of the Initial Range as a fat red vertical line.
16:57 Ensign Howard: The Session Bar is plotted to the left of both the Open Range and the Initial Range in its own line thickness and color.
16:58 Ensign Howard: This is a range bar for the session and shows using left side and right side tick hash marks the PH open and the current prices.
16:58 odds_on: Is this working now on the current version ?? -- Seems that it will not work with 1 or 5 min range settings??
16:59 Ensign Howard: it works in current version,.... possibly the issue with 1 min and 5 min entries is you do not have any bars whose ending time stamps are within that time period. We do not have the tick detail to know the range high and low from ticks.... all we have to work with is the bar high and low, and I chose to include in the high/low discovery those bars whose time stamps fall in the selected time periods.
17:01 Ensign Howard: if PH is on a 30 min chart, then first 2 bars will be found for the 60 min period. If on a 30 min chart, then 1st bar will be used for 15 min because we do not know how to subdivide the 30 min into smaller parts to find first 15 min of the 30 min bar.
17:02 odds_on: surely at the open there are 1 min and 5 min intial range bars to mark the first 1 or 5 min range???
17:02 Ensign Howard: the Session Box option will draw a frame from session high to session low and just beyond the POC width. This makes for a nice visual of a bar.
17:03 Ensign Howard: If the marker on the Session Box is one of the fill markers like is shown on the property form, then the value area will be filled
17:04 Ensign Howard: the fill color is the color bar to the right of the fill marker
17:04 dblue3: have question on that fill
17:04 Ensign Howard: ask dblue

17:05 dblue3: have body of dyo for daily bar behind and it obscures part of session box though plotting behind bars and above histogram on objects list
17:06 Ensign Howard: I see that, and it will stay that way because the fill is done so that all imagery on the screen is retained, such as study lines, grids, etc. The fill is intended to be lowest priority
17:07 dblue3: k... thanks can work around by not using solid fill on dyo
17:07 Ensign Howard: it is only filling those pixels that are background color

17:08 Ensign Howard: by the Open label is a color box for coloring the TPO that is the open TPO

17:08 Ensign Howard: By the Close label is the color box to color the current TPO
17:09 Ensign Howard: by the 50% label is a marker and color box that can be used to show a marker at the mid point of the session range
17:09 Ensign Howard: This plots on top of the Session Bar to the left of the PH, and in the example is shown as a big black right arrow.
17:10 Ensign Howard: any marker could be used, so pick what you like to see for the 50% marker.
17:10 Ensign Howard: To disable this marker, change the marker selection to the first entry on the list which is blank.
17:11 Ensign Howard: Another new feature is to outline the TPO boxes with a frame, and this is done when the square box marker is selected on the line by the Frame label, and the frame color is this marker color.
17:12 Ensign Howard: if the Frame marker is not this square box, but is something like the blank selection, then the area between TPOs shows the image behind, which is the way it is in the current PH.
17:12 Ensign Howard: Let me show the frame disable, for comparison.

17:13 Ensign Howard: Here you see the background color show through surrounding the TPO boxes.
17:13 odds_on: nice feature thanks
17:13 Ensign Howard: Personally, I like the crisper image of having a frame, and I like the black frame.
17:13 tip: do u have any plans to allow the ability to "split" the brackets?

17:14 Ensign Howard: yes, plans for doing so, but not implemented yet.
17:14 Ensign Howard: Any of the markers could be used for the marker on the Frame row.
17:14 tip: great thanks and thanks for all the work you're putting into this
17:15 Ensign Howard: and here is the smaller square box marker, in which case the marker is used for the TPO boxes instead of an actual box.
17:14 fibzones: nice Howard, but what are the vertical blue/lite blue lines that extend above and below the daily range?
17:15 Ensign Howard: fibzone, those lines are multiples of the initial range, ie 150% and then 200% of Initial Range.
17:16 fibzones: Ok, thanks

17:16 cos2: real nice Price Hist Howard thank you for the great work
17:16 Ensign Howard: this example shows the hollow circle marker used for TPOs

17:17 Charles: lol - waiting to see triangles next...
17:17 Ensign Howard: or solid circles, and you can experiement with many other visual effects.
17:17 Ensign Howard: let me show one last effect.

17:18 Ensign Howard: using the line markers, you can have thin lines, thicker lines, fats lines, etc, which is kind of like the PH in the old Ensign series that did horizontal lines, which was a request to retain.
17:19 Ensign Howard: This permits lot of background image of bars, study lines, etc to show through so you can have a huge variety of variation just with the marker selection chosen. I think the nicest visual is the big hollow square marker, which then does variable size boxes that are framed.
17:20 Ensign Howard: which is as per the examples shown at the start of the class.
17:20 odds_on: Long wait -- and huge reward on this work Howard -- thanks

17:21 Ensign Howard: the row labeled VAH,POC,VAL is not implemented yet but will be the check box option to have bar by bar curves plotted of the VAH value, the POC value and the VAL value
17:22 Ensign Howard: these 3 values can change bar by bar through out the day, and will be plotted as curves, or bands.
17:22 Ensign Howard: and this will then expose values that can be used in other studies, such as DYOs, for testing bar by bar.
17:23 Ensign Howard: right now the values exposed for a DYO are thus the current PH values
17:23 tick: awesome H
17:23 cos2: fantastic
17:24 Ensign Howard: so this VAH, POC, and VAL value being available as the PH developed during the day will be a nice improvement and should turn some of you loose for more clever implementations. Will have to see how it gets used when it is available... but at least the property form is anticipating it and will have a color box and line style for these 3 lines.
17:25 Ensign Howard: on the top of the form on the Outer Range and Inner Range lines are 2 color boxes.
17:25 Ensign Howard: left side color box is the color used for filling the TPO boxes/ the 2nd color box is not yet implemented, but will eventually be used as the color to transition to as a gradient to move from 1st color to 2nd color in uniform color steps as TPO periods progress through the day.
17:27 Ensign Howard: Probably will design it for a 14 step transition, which on a 30 minute bar chart will transition through the 14 periods of an ES day session.
17:27 tick: excellent thinking
17:27 Ensign Howard: I think the auto transition of color will be sufficient, and do not have space in the property structure to enter 14 or more additional color boxes
17:28 tick: and will be cleaner presentation on the chart as well
17:28 Ensign Howard: but it can help see TPOs belonging to the same period
17:28 Ensign Howard: anyway, that is the goal, and will see how it feels once it is implemented.
17:28 tip: creative
17:29 Ensign Howard: may be subject to adjustment of intent based on feedback and how it feels.
17:29 odds_on: Brilliant work Howard
17:29 Ensign Howard: possibly I need to use check box 14 to turn on or off this gradient color feature, as easier way then requiring both color boxes to be the same color to turn it off. On the right side are check box options, and am trying to retain those used in the past for extending range lines and poc lines. The new boxes are to show the session High and Low above the top of PH and bottom of PH The color used for these prices comes from the Range Band marker color, which in the example is blue.
17:31 Ensign Howard: The TPO count is also an optional show, and will show on the same location above and below the PH following the High and Low prices,
17:32 Ensign Howard: The CQG method check box is the same type of check box on the Setup | Charts property form to use either the eSignal method of the CQG method for determining the Value Area.
17:32 Ensign Howard: Some suggested it be a private property over on this form instead of over on the Setup | Charts form. So it is moved over to this form.
17:33 Ensign Howard: The 14 check box is just an unused check box available for some future use, possibly for Gradient on/off
17:34 Ensign Howard: On the Study Mode, a could new selections of Two Days and Three Days are showing, but not yet implemented.
17:34 Ensign Howard: the intent is to have bigger PH. if 2 days is selected, the PH would start at beginning of yesterday, thus yesterday and today and would auto move forward to always be recent time period, ie tomorrow would be today and tomorrow.. so it is a moving period and 3 day PH would have two prior days plus today in the PH and drop day 3 and add next day as a moving period
17:35 TOC: Howard, possibly a box that allows us to enter the number of days for creating a composite profile might be more useful
17:36 Ensign Howard: yes, toc, possibly and if you enter the number of days, I assume it is to be that many days back plus today. So a value of 5 would be 4 days back plus today as it develops
17:36 TOC: the number of days to view a composite profile varies based on market conditions
17:37 Ensign Howard: is that what you would want
17:37 TOC: correct
17:37 Ensign Howard: ok
17:38 TOC: great enhancements
17:39 Ensign Howard: then the other intended work is a major behind the scene effort to make the PH calculate only when needed, ie hopefully less frequently, and plot the visual quicker, and thus speed the PH up because it is CPU intensive. want it to be faster, because many of you have lots of charts, and huge chart sizes.
17:40 Ensign Howard: this is one study that is quite slow because of its complexity, but I am sure I can squeeze more speed out of it through some changes to my approach. also, want to have the bar by bar plot of the VAH, POC, and VAL, and that requires some changes
17:41 Ensign Howard: and also want to have the gradient colors and possibly alpha letters for the TPOs, and that requires some changes to the information that is stored.
17:41 Ensign Howard: so I still have lots of work to do, and most from now on will be less visual. you can at least benefit from the interrum state of the implementation. if something does not work, continue to use the current PH which is not being touched while I work on implementing all changes to the PH (New)
17:45 Ensign Howard: any question?
17:45 TraderDad: will letters be able to designate time periods within the session?
17:46 Ensign Howard: yes traderdad, when implemented (NEW)
