Plotting Slope, Repaint Draw Tools, NR Bar study, manage symbols, rollover, volume SD, % of study alert

June 9 , 2004

1651 @ Ensign The first new feature in the New Ensign of a week ago is the LRS or Linear Regression Slope study

1651 @ Ensign This feature is part of the Regression Channel study

1651 @ Ensign This study would put on a channel. Now there is a new check box for Plot Slope (LRS) on the study property form.

1652 @ Ensign When this box is checked, we now plot the SLOPE of the regression lines instead of making a channel.

1653 @ Ensign LRS has been of interest lately in competitor products as well, and so it was added to Ensign because it was requested.

1653 @ Ensign We expect to have an article on LRS from a customer for the June issue of Trading Tips newsletter.

1653 tony127 I think woodie uses a 2 % 25 bars

1654 @ Ensign The next new feature in Ensign is a check box on the bottom of the SetUp | Charts property form.

1654 @ Ensign This box is labeled Repaint Draw Tools.

1654 @ Ensign This is a global setting for all charts.

1655 @ Ensign When the box is unchecked, the behavior is as you have seen it in the past.

1655 @ Ensign When the box is checked, the draw tools will repaint to extend into the future when the charts shifts leftward.

1656 @ Ensign So, if you have Fib levels that extend to the right edge, now you can have them repaint to the right edge as the chart shifts leftward by checking this option box.

1656 Randy1 like pyra as well?

1656 @ Ensign yes, pyra too

1657 @ Ensign The next feature upgrade is to add the Narrow Range bars study.

1657 @ Ensign We had NR bars as a color bar study, but this prevented color bars from being some other setting like Dunnigan color bars.

1657 @ Ensign So we added NR as a study so it could be used in addition to some other color bar study.

1658 @ Ensign The way to get NR bars as a study is to put the Donchian Channel study on a chart.

1658 @ Ensign On this study property form is a new check box for Mark NR bars

1658 @ Ensign when this box is checked, the Markers that could have marked every bar for the donchian channel will not

1659 @ Ensign will now mark ONLY the narrow range bars.

1659 @ Ensign The donchian channel lines can be removed from the image so you are left with just the NR bars being marked by

1700 @ Ensign changing the line style for the upper and lower band to be the blank setting for the line style selection

1701 @ Ensign the markers for the NR are those for the upper band Marker and the lower band Marker.

1702 @ Ensign In fact one could have two different NR settings by using different parameters for the upper and the lower entries.

1702 @ Ensign The NR upper marker will be above the bars.

1702 @ Ensign The NR lower setting and marker will plot below the bars.

1702 @ Ensign and you could get fancy with color bar or zone selections for the markers too.

1703 @ Ensign in this chart the bands are hidden, and now the marker was changed to be Highlight

1703 @ Ensign this puts a background color behind the NR bars.

1705 @ Ensign another feature that will be in the 06-09 upgrade to be posted after the class affects the posting of charts to dacharts.

1705 @ Ensign We appreciate the partnership with dacharts web site as a place for users to post charts to the internet.

1705 @ Ensign We have added a button on the SetUp | Images form which will set the entries to be correct entries for posting to the dacharts web site.

1706 @ Ensign The button is labeled Reset to dacharts.

1706 @ Ensign This should make it easier to confirm a user has the right settings for accomplishing an upload to dacharts site.

1708 XRay What's the best way to manage the number of symbols for Esignal?

1708 @ Ensign type in a question if you would like us to help you with the program.

1709 @ Ensign Xray, we have a new check box on the Setup | Manager form that will help manager your esignal symbol list.

1709 XRay OK Thanks. I will take a look at it.

1710 @ Ensign The box is Auto Add Symbols, and in the past the default was to always add to the manager list any symbol when a chart was opened for that symbol.

1710 @ Ensign For some, this was causing their list to grow with unwanted symbols.

1710 @ Ensign Now they can uncheck the Auto Add box and we will not add chart symbols to the manager list.

1711 @ Ensign The user will have to put them on the manager list manually if they want eSignal (or any vendor) to feed the data for the symbol.

1711 UKtrader how do I save my workspace and all charts, just change the contract, tomorrow?

1711 @ Ensign UKtrader, open the workspace and then use menu File | Rollover symbols.

1712 UKtrader thanks

1712 @ Ensign this menu will have Ensign look at the symbols on the Manager List and those that are rolling out, like M4 to U4 will generate confirmation prompts to do the symbol change on the manager list.

1712 @ Ensign It will also scan through the open quote page (if any) and prompt to roll the M4 symbol out.

1713 @ Ensign and then it will do the same for the open charts, and roll those symbols to the next contract month.

1713 @ Ensign After the roll out is finished, resave your workspace.

1713 @ Ensign the feature is faster than manually finding those places to roll M4 to U4.

1713 @ Ensign on the manager list, custom quote page, and open charts.

1716 tricky I have Ensign esignal feed, is it possible to download data on internet services ,for indices/stocks,. for symbols I'm not subscribing to ?

1716 @ Ensign does anyone have another question.

1718 @ Ensign tricky, you should be able to get delayed and refresh through esignal for the markets you do not subscribe to real-time.

1718 @ Ensign I think this is the case except for forex exchanges.

1718 @ Ensign and you would not get forex data from the internet services anyway

1718 vwman when I make alert for erg studies crossing over or under .alert does not show the cross even close to line cross

1719 @ Ensign vwman, are you trying to compare bar values with erg study values? They are not comparable.

1719 @ Ensign They are on different scales altogether and cannot be compared.

1719 tricky thx

1720 @ Ensign they may plot in the same view because the erg self scales to find its highest and lowest values and uses that as a scale range.

1720 vwman just 2 averages

1720 @ Ensign but what you see is like 2 different sheets of plastic, one for bars, and one for erg overlaid in the same view.

1721 @ Ensign can you show me a picture of a chart to illustrate what you are asking about?

1721 vwman ok thanks

1723 @ Ensign ok, talk about the chart, are you on ventrilo?

1723 vwman 3rd study window green and red band on top

1724 vwman yes erg - the red and green band are not showing the cross of the erg lines

This is so because each one is calculating the scale independently. While the lines are crossing visually, each erg has a different scale and the band doesn't change until they cross the same place in the scale. Let me try % of scale in the alert.

1727 @Buffy2 this is a common question for many different studies

1728 tricky would be very interesting if it could be done the cross still is significant

1728 Randy1 wow that is cool

1752 @Buffy2 red line ergotic

1752 @Buffy2 blue stoch

1752 @Buffy2 zone coloring based on the red above/below blue line

1752 @Buffy2 this uses the show % of study in the alert.

1752 @Buffy2 show % of study window

1731 @Buffy2 alert exceeding average volume by standard deviation using Bollinger Band - Alert would be set for volume bar above and below the upper and lower Bollinger Band.
