| Study Mode - Standard, Rising/Falling, Above/Below and Zones - and templates |
January 21, 2004
Welcome - Topic is Study Mode - Standard, Rising/Falling, Above/Below and Zones - and templates
using a template is the way to keep the studies together
open an IBM daily study
going to select stochastic from the studies list
then I am going to click on studies again and select RSI study
then click on studies again and select moving average

there is the chart of IBM which shows daily chart with MA and below chart you
will see stoch and RSI
we are not going to go into the properties windows for these 3 studies at this
point
will assume they are how I want them
but I do want to memorize this set of studies as a template
all a template is is a quick way to apply multiple studies at the same time
to a chart
with these 3 studies on the chart click on templates button
button has blue and red square with black arrow between them
or right click and select templates
right click is the easiest when you have many monitors

you can see from the picture just posted that my templates panel is barely showing
click on "save as" and type in "my studies" and hit enter
- the name has added it to the template list
the template memorized all of the studies etc on the chart when you saved it
now I can close this IBM chart
open up and emini naz daily or MSFT daily doesn't matter
can be any time frame
once it is open
click on templates
after selecting my studies template
by clicking on it to highlight it then click on open button
or can just dbl click on my studies
this will open template on the chart
anything previously on the chart will disappear
the template will replace anything already there
it does not add
go up and click on templates again
so it will open the panel - we will discuss the check boxes
first check box is labeled all charts
a check in that box then any time you apply a template to a chart it will apply
it to ALL open charts in your workspace
depending on what you are doing you may want this
others may not
this is how you control it
it is a neat way to apply a template to one chart or multiple charts
the sorted box will list templates in alpha order
the blue arrows will move a highlighted template up or down in the list
this allows you to arrange them as you want
you may also write a description of your template in the description box
if you send you template to someone you can include the doc file also
so I am on the IBM daily chart and want to add a study
open studies template and click on Keltner
this change is saved to the same template by clicking on template and clicking
on the template name and click on save
the top template in the list of templates is what will be added to a new chart
if you have template checked in the charts icon window
you can use ctrl E to send templates .dat and .doc files
one file at a time
files are stored in the ensign\template folder
if you want to attached them both to an email
my studies.dat
my studies.doc
to use this template as an example
when you receive them save them to the template folder
you do not have to close Ensign to save a template from email
download the ones available through internet service enables you to see how
things are done
we are going to switch and talk about study modes
clear all studies off from ibm chart except for stochastic
as you know this particular study the stochastic study is scaled from zero to
100
so the study line shows k and d
they will move up and down
usually lower than 80 and above 20 depending on your settings
open the properties window for the stochastics study

this is the properties window
in the upper left you can set the parameters for bars k and d
I am smoothing them with 3 period ma
on the right side there are 4 study modes
standard
rising falling
above below
zones
first is standard
most of you are used to this one
two lines two colors that is it
now click on rising falling
watch what happens to your properties window

with the rising falling selection box selected each line now has two separate
sets of styles and markers
it has dbl the coloring and line style for each line
many different results can be obtained
use color and or markers
lets change line style
click on drop down box and rising style and change to big fat line

that is the result just posted
by changing to a fat green line it really jumps out when rising
make it easier to tell when it is rising
one of the things most people use the rising falling study mode for is color
green rising red falling on k
the spread represents the distance between k and d
when you put the check mark in spread box it will plot histogram
the up and down lines
and choose reg, bold, and colors also here
lets change to different study mode
above and below on right
this setting is tied to the spread
tied to if lines are crossing each other or not
some people want to see instead of just rising or falling they just want to
know if K is above D or below it
for one color
below in a different color
any questions?
lets go on to the last one zones
click on the zones in the stoch properties windows
you will see more boxes appear in properties window
now each line has 3 settings
standard only had one
rising falling and above below was two choices
zones give you 3 choices
depending on the zone the study is in
will post then will talk about it

as you know stoch studies are scaled between zero and 100
maybe you want to see special color or marker if only above 80 or below 20
in the middle ground - neutral area - you can have another color or marker
any time the K line got above 80 you wanted to draw in green with snowflakes
as marker
you would add the snowflake to the marker using the drop down menu
and below 20 you want red stars
I will post what that looks like after selecting these

you can see I have put snowflake for over 80- and a star for below 20

this is what the chart now looks like
green snowflakes up top above eighty
and red stars when below 20
there is a large list of markers to use
or just change line thickness and colors
keep playing until it is visually appealing to you
the zone levels can be changed
to whatever you want
changing it to 70 would put the markers on line over 70
anyone have a question on how to use any of the study modes
standard
rising falling
above below
and zones
above and below is good for lines that cross
type studies
zones are used for studies between zero and 100
can be used for ma by typing in price
make sure to click on the tab if you want your changes to be permanent
otherwise Ensign assumes it is a change for this chart only
by bringing up the chart properties window
under the ok button
you will see the name of the template on that chart
if these is a time after the template name then it has not been saved since
you made changes
thanks Kimball
